Contrast Receives 4.8/5.0 in 2020 Gartner Peer Insights ‘Voice of the Customer’: AST Customers’ Choice
Technology companies that fail at delivering unparalleled customer experiences and demonstrating business value simply cannot survive in today’s digital era. Too often, there is a significant gap between what products are capable of doing and what customers actually do with them. Since our founding, Contrast Security has taken this challenge very seriously, and our engineering, product, advocacy, and customer success teams work closely with customers to ensure they achieve full value from the Contrast Application Security Platform.
Contrast Security Receives 2020 Gartner Peer Insights Customers’ Choice
Ultimately, it is not necessarily what we do as a company, but what our customers say that matters when it comes to demonstrating positive experiences and successes using our modern application security approach. At Contrast Security, customers are at the heart of our success. Thus, we are really excited to receive a 2020 Gartner Peer Insights Customers' Choice for Application Security Testing (AST). This recognition is based on the following evaluation criteria: “willingness to recommend, product capabilities, evaluation and contracting, integration and deployment, and service and support.”
Drilling Down Into the Findings from the Gartner Peer Insights ‘Voice of the Customer’ Report
Organizations evaluating different AST solutions in the marketplace typically rely on Gartner Peer Insights to evaluate different vendor options. For those considering AST solutions, you should make note of our overall rating of 4.8/5.0 as of July 31, 2020, based on 62 reviews. In this context, ratings were taken on a scale of 1 to 5, where 1 is “completely dissatisfied” and 5 is “completely satisfied.”
Contrast Security received an overall score of 4.8/5.0.
This takes on even further meaning when you consider that out of all the vendors included in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Application Security Testing 2020, Contrast Security’s 4.8 overall rating is highest in terms of overall ratings. Plus, per our view, Contrast Security had the smallest deviation between reviews of any vendors (i.e., as there was much less variance, this indicates greater general consensus on satisfaction with the Contrast platform and accompanying customer support).
Beyond the overall rating, other areas of assessment that we believe are noteworthy include:
- Highest rating for service and support (4.9/5.0)
- Highest percentage of 5.0 ratings (79%) for vendors in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Application Security Testing 2020
- 96% of reviewers indicate willingness to recommend
In addition to the above, we grew our number of reviews year over year 3.4x—an indication that more and more Contrast customers are engaged and willing to recommend. This also highlights Contrast’s continued growth, which includes a growing Customer Success team focused on ensuring continued customer adoption and growth.

Integrated Application Security Platform
When we look at reasons for such positive reviews and insights, there are multiple factors. One at the top of the list is our continued product evolution. In the past year, we built and released major capabilities such as:
- Expanded language, framework, and environment support, including Python, .NET Core, and Ruby, among others, as well as many cloud services across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, IBM, and Red Hat.
- Continuous advanced application risk visibility that provides insights into the entire application attack surface through Route Intelligence and automated application architectural visualization.
- Simplified platform deployment through automation and deployment options that enable scalable enterprisewide deployment of agents in line with DevOps processes and toolchains.
- Enhanced open-source library security and compliance capabilities through software composition analysis (SCA) that is integrated into the platform, thus providing open-source library CVE vulnerability identification, licensing compliance, and runtime protection from zero-day attacks.
- Added auto-remediation verification that enables developers to automatically verify vulnerability remediation, which significantly reduces the amount of time required to fix vulnerabilities.
- Multi-technique runtime exploit prevention to add more layers of protection against the exploitation of known and unknown vulnerabilities in applications running in production.
- Additional extensive integration with IDE and CI/CD pipeline that embeds security instrumentation within the tools developers use to write and manage code; this includes API integration with Microsoft Visual Studio Code—the most widely deployed IDE tool today.
Contrast Security was a leader in North America.
What's most exciting is the fact that these are all part of a comprehensive application security platform approach that uses observability from development to production. Indeed, the Contrast Application Security Platform is the industry’s only observability platform that uses instrumentation to extend application security from left in development to right through production. This eliminates the need for multiple application security tools that require experts to tune and manage and lack integration. Additionally, because we embed security within software using sensors, our security analysis is continuous versus point in time as is the case with legacy application security models. This puts vulnerability management in the hands of developers rather than a team of specialized security experts who are costly and hard to recruit and retain.
Continual Customer Engagement, Dialogue, and Innovation
Continued customer dialogue provides us with the opportunity to keep a regular pulse on customer requirements, and their candid feedback and perspective enable us to continually improve and ensure their success. Doing so enables them to scale their application security programs to meet the business velocity demanded in our digital world.
Earlier this year, Contrast added a business value analysis program that is used to help prospects identify the potential business value they will achieve using Contrast over legacy application security tools and customers to pinpoint the actual business value they have and are achieving with Contrast. We recently applied this business value analysis model to our use of the Contrast Application Security Platform to secure and protect TeamServer, the UI and analytics engine for the Contrast platform, and uncovered over $600,000 in business value in the first year and $1.45 million in three years.
Measuring the Impact of Lower Security Debt
Helping our customers to reduce their security debt not only translates into fewer vulnerabilities but also lowers risk. And with growing numbers of organizations around the world reducing their security debt, this enables their development teams to focus on writing and releasing more code—which delivers more business value to the bottom line of those organizations. At the same time, as organizations are able to pay down their security debt, this reduces the number of vulnerabilities in applications and thus the risk of data breaches that cross multiple organizations and can affect millions of individuals.
