Insight #1

Are we overburdening CISOs? According to CSO Online, the scope of responsibilities and titles held by CISOs has expanded significantly, with the title of “CISO” morphing into a dual title, appended by “and CIO,” or CTO, or VP of engineering, or head of product, or head of infrastructure. This begs the question: Is it time to reconsider the current model and distribute these duties? In my view, it is.

A critical vulnerability recently discovered in GitLab allowed any user to run pipelines as any other user, effectively bypassing access controls and enabling unauthorized execution of privileged pipelines. This poses a significant security risk, as underprivileged users could potentially gain elevated access and exploit sensitive information or resources. GitLab users are strongly advised to update their instances immediately to mitigate this risk.

While a recent ISC2 survey reveals that 82% of cybersecurity professionals believe AI will boost their job efficiency, a significant 69% are either uncertain or disagree that AI benefits them more than it does cyber attackers.
